Having great dental hygiene at all ages is important, after all, we all want to keep our teeth sparkly and clean throughout these wonderful years of our lives!  Picking out the right toothbrush can be hard work; especially with all the choices available to us.

Let us help you navigate the ins and outs of choosing the perfect toothbrush, and if you have further questions, don’t hesitate to contact our office.

Babies

Dental care should not be *brushed* under the rug just because you can’t see your baby’s teeth yet. You want the best for your little one and that includes a healthy mouth. When your child is an infant, parents should use a Finger Tooth brush. This brush allows your babies mouth to be cleaned even before teeth have popped through the gums.

Toddlers and Children

When children start to have their teeth come in, it’s time to switch to a toothbrush with little soft bristles. Choose a toothbrush with a smaller handle so it fits in the child’s hands and is not intimidating. Allowing them to brush their own teeth teaches independence and long-lasting oral care habits.

When they are young you want to let them practice doing their teeth themselves, however, until you have full confidence you should go back over their teeth to ensure they have been cleaned properly.

Teenagers

Ah, yes the lovely age of braces! It is crucial for teenagers to take very good care of their teeth during their formative years. Purchase a Water Flosser to get the food particles from hidden spots. While having braces, teenagers should stick to the toothbrush that their dentist recommends for their specific case. And then after the braces come off, switch to a Sonicare toothbrush that leaves your teeth feeling extra clean.

Adult

Sonicare toothbrushes are the best for oral care. They are exceptional cleaners.Invest in a quality toothbrush, like a Sonicare. Purchasing a well-crafted toothbrush ends up saving you hundreds of dollars on future cavity fillings and dental work. Plus, nothing feels better than having that just brushed feeling!

Seniors

Seniors should use a soft bristle toothbrush or a Sonicare toothbrush depending on their exact case. If you are not sure about what exactly you should be using then give us a call today and we’ll get you an appointment set up with Dr. Myers.
