Porcelain veneers are a common practice in cosmetic dentistry. Veneers are thin, custom made shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth in order to improve a patient’s smile. Veneers resist stains from food and drink better than the teeth because unlike enamel, veneers are not porous. Patients typically get veneers to remedy discolored, chipped or broken, or unevenly spaced teeth. Veneers may also be a good option for patients who haven’t had success with any alternative whitening methods. However, veneers are not right for everyone. Here’s what you need to know about porcelain veneers to determine if they are right for you:
You cannot get veneers in one
Wisdom teeth are a set of third molars that typically develop between the ages of 17 and 25. Many people might associate wisdom teeth with funny videos of patients coming off of anesthesia; however, wisdom teeth can cause serious problems if they aren’t treated properly. In many cases, an individual’s mouth is too crowded to allow wisdom teeth to develop properly behind the molars, so the teeth become trapped, or impacted, when they begin to grow. Fully impacted wisdom teeth fully break through the surface of the gums, while a partially impacted tooth only breaks through to where some of the crown may be visible.
It’s no secret that smoking is bad for you, causing many health problems like lung cancer and heart damage. Cigarettes contain more than 7,000 chemicals, 69 of which are known to lead to cancer. Some of the chemicals used in cigarettes are also used in batteries, lighter fluid, nail polish remover, and more. But did you know that smoking is also bad for your teeth? Smoking can cause significant damage to the teeth, gums, and tongue, making it harder for your mouth to fight off infection and bacteria. The damage smoking does to your teeth varies from moderate to life threatening. Ways smoking affects your oral health include:

Tooth decay occurs when acid attacks the tooth and causes the enamel to lose minerals. Bacteria creates these acids as it feeds on the sugar in your food. Sometimes the enamel is able to recover on its own, however it is possible that permanent damage in the form of a cavity can develop where the enamel is destroyed. Cavities cannot heal on their own, and must be repaired by a dentist with a filling. If not treated, the tooth will continue to decay, causing pain, infection, and even tooth loss. The best way to protect your teeth from decay is to prevent cavities altogether. Here are a few tips to help keep your teeth healthy and cavity-free:

When it comes to keeping your mouth clean, no one knows better than your dentist. Regular checkups and cleanings are important to keeping your teeth healthy and beautiful. But what can you do in between cleanings to make sure your smile stays perfect? Here are the top 5 oral hygiene tips to help keep you on track.
- Proper Brushing Technique – You know you have to brush twice a day, but are you sure you’re doing it correctly? The most effective way to brush your teeth is to position your brush at a 45 degree angle while keeping the bristles in contact with both the teeth and gums and brushing in an up and down motion. This technique can be done on the inside and outside of your teeth.
- Flossing – Flossing daily helps to remove particles of food that may have gotten caught in those tight spaces between teeth. Lack of flossing regularly can cause cavities and lead to decay.
When it comes to having the most cutting edge technology, we at Cannon Park Dental strive to always provide the best for our clients. From top of the line equipment to the best service, we are always putting excellence first. This includes our CEREC custom crown technology by Dentsply Sirona.
