What You Need to Know About CEREC Technology

March 23, 2018

When going the traditional route, getting a crown replaced can be quite a pain. Multiple visits, the goopy molding gel, and the discomfort of a temporary crown all add up to a long, arduous process.

But at Cannon Park Dental, we don’t go the traditional route. Using revolutionary CEREC technology, getting a crown is easier and more comfortable than ever before!

What is CEREC?

Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC) is a state of the art technology that removes the lab, and the time, when creating tooth restorations for the patient. It is a more economic means of treating your dental problems and is much quicker than traditional restoring techniques. CEREC can be used for crowns, partial crowns, veneers and more!

The Process

If you need a crown replaced, Dr. Myers will take a look at your tooth and determine whether or not you qualify for CEREC. After making an examination, he takes a 3D impression of your tooth with a camera to create the most accurate ‘cast’ of your tooth. The best part? No nasty molding gel for better fitting results!

Dr. Myers then preps your tooth for the new crown and takes another virtual cast. A machine called the milling unit then creates your new restoration with a hard ceramic. The unit creates an accurate restoration for your tooth that takes only a few minutes to make. Finally, Dr. Myers puts a glaze on the new restoration, polishes it, and puts it in your mouth. You’re done! And it takes all of two hours in a single visit.

The Advantages

The advantage to CEREC technology is time and comfort. The virtual mold is much more accurate than a traditional gel mold and the crown is created right in our office. There is no need for a temporary crown, which means you get your crown in a single visit with us. Plus, the CEREC mold lasts just as long lasting as traditional crowns and looks natural in the mouth.

At Cannon Park Dental, we are committed to bringing you the best in dental health services. Whether you need a crown, a partial crown, or a veneer, we can use CEREC technology to get you in and out with a new restoration as quickly and comfortably as possible!
