A native South Carolinian, Dr. Jay Myers was born in Spartanburg and lived there until attending the College of Charleston in 1994. Twenty + years later, Dr. Myers has found himself right at home with a dental practice in the heart of downtown Charleston, a beautiful wife Mandy, and three wonderful children, Isabel, Avery, and Weston.
It was at the College of Charleston that Dr. Myers discovered the profession that was a perfect marriage of his passions and skills…dentistry. He graduated cum laude from the College of Charleston, and was accepted into the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Dental Medicine, the following year. In his four years at MUSC, he expressed a particularly keen eye in the field of cosmetic dentistry and was awarded, upon his graduation, the single Award for Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry…an award given to a single graduating senior each year.
Following graduation, Dr. Myers accepted a position in a large practice in Charlotte, NC, but quickly returned to the Lowcountry as soon as a position opened up. He was in Summerville for five years when he was then able to purchase his current practice in historic downtown Charleston! Cannon Park Dental, situated in a quaint spot right between his two alma maters, is truly where Dr. Myers was always meant to be. Cannon Park Dental is very unique in its individualized attention to the patient. Dr. Myers has brought the ‘boutique dental’ experience to downtown Charleston.
With the latest discoveries involving the direct correlation between dental health and cardiovascular health, it is becoming more and more evident that poor dental care leads to poor overall health, and even can lead to earlier (preventable) deaths. Even though a lot of dentistry focuses on the esthetics of getting that movie star smile, today’s dentistry also has a lot to teach us about the effect an unhealthy mouth can have on the rest of the body. Dr. Myers is, before all else, a husband and father. His greatest job in the world is that of being a parent to his three children, and a loving husband to Mandy. He founded Cannon Park Dental in that spirit of family. The patient that comes to see Dr. Myers and his team becomes a part of the family.
