
Halloween is a fun time for the whole family, from picking pumpkins to finding the perfect costume. But there’s one thing that gets parents (and the team at Cannon Park!) worried during the Halloween season- candy. While your children may be excited about all the trick-or-treating coming up, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the Halloween season that don’t involve chocolate and cavities.
Here’s a list of 6 local Charleston events where the whole family can celebrate this spooky season with something other than candy!
Ghostwalk and Hayride in Hutchinson Square
Date: Saturday, October 28
Hours: 6 – 9 pm
This exciting event will have entertainment, hayrides, games, food vendors, a ghost walk and more! The ghost walk has three different versions; G, PG, and PG13, making it perfect for any family. Attendees are invited to wear costumes!
Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the event. Hayride tickets are sold separately for $4. Children under 3 are free!
Boone Hall Fright Nights
Dates: Now through October 31
Hours: 7:15 pm – midnight
Live actors, state of the art technology, and elaborate sets combine to ramp up the scare factor at South Carolina’s largest multi-attraction haunted event! With 4 different attractions to choose from, you and your family can find plenty of spooky ways to celebrate Halloween.
You can expect to pay $7- $14 per attraction or you can purchase passes for all four attractions at $33 ($45 for VIP access).
Family Fright Nights at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens
Dates: October 20 – 28
Hours: 6 pm – 10 pm
Magnolia’s 9th Annual Family Fright Nights offers a family friendly alternative to the guts and gore. Activities include haunted train rides, Mad Scientist Lab, hay-bale maze, pony rides, big hay mountain, face painting, crafts, children’s games, photo booth, costume contest and more! Concessions will also be available.
Tickets are $10 per person, but children under 6 can attend for free! The event is also free for Magnolia annual members.
Legare Farms Haunted House
Dates: Weekends in October
Hours: Fridays 5-8 pm , Saturdays 10 am – 8 pm and Sunday 1-6 pm
Haunted house, trail of terror, and haunted hayride. No children under the age of 10 will be allowed in the haunted house or maze. Other attractions include, horse rides, scarecrow factory, gem mine, nature quest, corn cannon, and duck races.
Admission is just $1, but some attractions have separate pricing ranging from $2-$12
USS Yorktown Haunted Tours
Dates: Nightly during the month of October. Check out full calendar here.
Hours: 8pm Sunday-Thursday, 9pm Friday and Saturday
This 90-minute guided tour will walk you through a haunted, historical journey learning about ghosts that have been reported to haunt the USS Yorktown. To help in your exploration, the use of a Ghost Meter will be available to measure possible paranormal activity that may be taking place around you!
Admission is $25 per person, and parking is free.
Ghost and Pirate Harbor Tour
Dates: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights in October. Also open on the 23rd, 30th and 31st of October.
Hours: The ship sets sail at 7pm
Explore Charleston Harbor on this one of a kind ghost tour! Hear the tales of lost fortunes, pirate ships and tragic deaths while riding Charleston’s dark waves. Experience the fascinating horror that the Holy City’s pirates, wars, and storms have ravaged!
Price is $27 for adults and $18 for kids 12 and under. Children under 3 not permitted.
